Sage Tea
Sage Tea – The Common Cooking Herb That’s A Medical Marvel
Most of you will only be familiar with sage (Salvia Officinalis) as a cooking herb and it does that job wonderfully. A pinch of sage added to a dish can really bring it to life. But sage is much more than just a seasoning for your food and when used as a tea can help you treat more health problems and gripes than you could have imagined. The name sage actually means “to heal” in Latin so that tells you a lot about how valuable sage tea can be to you and your family.
Oral Problems
If you’re having problems with canker sores, sore or bleeding gums, a sore throat or tonsillitis then gargling warm or cold sage tea can help with these types of problems very quickly. Just treat the sage infusion like a mouthwash and use it as frequently as you’d use normal mouthwash and you’ll see results in no time at all.
Alzheimer’s Disease
One study has shown that sage tea can help with the management (not the cure) of moderate Alzheimer’s disease. The study showed that sage can help maintain the levels of something called acetylcholine in the human brain. Acetylcholine basically helps the synapses in your nervous system keep firing or in other words allows your brain to keep working at its highest possible level.
One of the spin-off potential benefits of this is that using sage tea when you’re studying might also help you remember more of what you’re studying…and just in time for that big exam!
Menstrual Problems
For women who are having problems with vaginal discharge or very painful periods they might find that the estrogenic effect in sage tea can help with these issues. Just one or two cups of sage tea per day can have dramatic effects here. Sage has also been shown to be very useful in treating menopause by helping with night sweats and other menopausal side-effects.
One note of warning here is that pregnant women shouldn’t drink sage tea as it can cause muscle contractions and cause serious problems with a pregnancy because of this.
Perspiration Problems
Believe it or not continued use of sage infusions can help with the problem of sweating too much and it’s been used to treat this problem long before anti-perspirants were even invented. If you look in natural health stores now you’ll find a lot of sage based deodorants and they claim they can reduce your sweating problem by as much as 50%! Just 2 – 3 cups of sage tea can have the exact same effect on you though.
Digestive Problems
Because sage as a strong anti-spasmodic component drinking a few cups of sage tea can help with any stomach cramps or digestive problems you might be having. Just remember never to overdo it when treating any digestive problem.
So what you thought was just a tasty herb that you added to roast meat or pasta dashes is actually one of the best medicinal herbs you can have in your homeopathic medicine cabinet. Bet you never realized sage was so powerful did you?
